Why did George Lincoln Rockwell call his group the American Nazi Party?

I did some research on George Lincoln Rockwell and I found he was far from a nazi. He like Slavic people and allowed them to join his group. He also formed a alliance with the Nation of Islam, and liked Malcolm X. If Hitler found out about this organization then he wouldn't encouraged it. So why did he call it the American Nazi party? To me he seemed more like a american anti-communist White Nationalist then a Nazi.
