"The Wicker Man": How do the original & Nick Cage remake compare?

I've only seen the first few minutes of the original. Recently, I had the chance to watch the remake in its entirety. Quite an interesting tale, but I know remakes rarely do originals justice. I'm contemplating watching the original, but what I recall wasn't that great. How do the original and the remake compare from the standpoint of someone who likes actual quality content over special effects & vibrant imagery?
