Asking them not to bring kids to wedding after invites went out?

How were the invites addressed? If it was just to Mr. and Mrs, then the kids weren't invited in the first place. If you addressed them "to family", there's no polite way to change your mind. Talk to the venue and hire a babysitter or friend to keep them occupied in a separate room.
