Why do illegal immigrants receive diplomatic immunity?

They don't. Diplomatic immunity is only extended to ambadors and dignitaries from foreign nations in the US. A diplomat is an official from a foreign nation. So how can an immigrant legally get diplomatic immunity? That is impossible.
