Would wearing gles improve my eyesight?

Well I'm 16 (Grade 11) and ever since I was in grade 7, maybe even 6 I've had bad eyesight i couldnt read the board unless i was like right in the front. I've never told anyone because only until recently iv tought gles were like the ugliest thing alive, and I model so i really can't risk that. So well anyways im going to ask me mom to get my eyes checked but im just wondering if I wear the gles for a set period of time will my eyesight get better at all?
